Introduction to Nutrition and Feeding for Children

SPOON's free online course Introduction to Nutrition and Feeding for Children provides the foundations of nutrition, feeding, and healthy growth, and their intersection with disability. It also introduces you to SPOON's digital health app, Count Me In. The course is designed to build your capacity to use advocacy, interventions, and tools to improve the health outcomes of vulnerable children.

  • Define healthy growth in infants and children.
  • Explain the importance of an adequate, balanced, and diverse diet for infants and children.

  • Recall causes and consequences of iron deficiency in children.
  • Describe prevention and management strategies for undernutrition.
  • List best practices for feeding infants and children.
  • Define responsive feeding for infants and children.
  • Define disability, and explain its relationship with malnutrition.
  • List common conditions and impairments that can result in feeding difficulties.
  • Describe strategies to promote feeding children with disabilities safely and with dignity.
  • Explain the purpose of Count Me In.
