SPOON Wins Zero Project Award for Advocating for People with Disabilities

SPOON is thrilled to announce that we are a recipient of the 2024 Zero Project Award.

The Zero Project is an initiative that finds and shares solutions that fulfill the rights of persons with disabilities. This year’s awards focused on organizations working in Inclusive Education and Information and Communication Technologies. Awardees were selected by a peer review panel of experts from the international disability inclusion community, and the decision was based on innovation, impact, and scalability.

“The innovations of the Zero Project Awardees vary in their approaches to Inclusive Education and the fields they target. What unites them is a solution-oriented mindset towards removing barriers. Through their demonstrated practices, they also have answers for some of the most urgent challenges related to disability inclusion in these times of multiple crises.”

SPOON was awarded for our system-wide approach to fighting malnutrition among children with disabilities. SPOON trains service providers, like health and social workers, to use our digital health app, Count Me In, to monitor children’s growth, risk of anemia, feeding, and development.

Count Me In also produces individualized recommendations for families and professionals to support each child’s nutrition, and provides data that advocates use to push for more inclusive policies. To date, over 3,250 children have been assessed in Count Me In. Our data, which show improved nutrition, are informing policy priorities of governments, donors, and nutrition organizations around the globe.
