Doreen Alupo, MPHN

Nutrition Technical Officer, Uganda Consultant

What I Do: As a Nutrition Technical Officer, I train health workers and caregivers in SPOON's adapted disability-inclusive nutrition curriculum and Health app, Count Me In. A primary focus of my work is advocating for and improving nutrition, feeding, and care practices to ensure children with disabilities can live to their full potential.

Background: I am a Public Health Nutritionist passionate about inclusive, evidence-based nutrition for vulnerable populations. With 15 years of experience, I have expertise in livelihood and nutrition, policy, and M&E. Before joining SPOON, I worked with children in a hospital nutrition unit, then with smallholder farming families to improve food security and nutrition. With the MOH, I contributed to several national guidelines and HMIS reviews. My approach focuses on solutions that are innovative, inclusive, and sustainable.

Favorite SPOON Memory: A mother at a community-based rehabilitation center that SPOON supports once walked up to me and said, "Musawo [local for health worker], thank you so much. My child now feeds better, she looks better, I'm no longer ashamed of her, I go everywhere with my child, I don't hide her anymore, and my husband too is happy. I know that if I continue feeding her well, she will live a normal life." My work gives hope and builds confidence!
